18 mo check-in

At lunch today...in MP--I found a penny in the parking lot---thanks.

Well, today it's been 18 mo since 10.30.05 and I've decided to count the coins...separating them only by coin type and # in a 12 and 6 month period.

Background: Someone sent me the original email about pennies maybe 13 months ago, so really I've only been 'aware' of them for that long, but I will count for year 1 and then the 1st 6 mo of year 2. I recall taking a rough count of year one back in November...about 52 cents--averaging at least one penny a week (but really more since I started to be aware 5 months after 10.30)

One at the Taco stand getting my food and change...
One in the revolving door behind the church as I make my way through buildings to avoid the rain...
One 'IN' the pavement under the L-tracks in the middle of Lake street a block from my building...I tried to pick it up and just about broke my fingernail. Then, I let the traffic clear and tried to pry it up w/ my keys as everyone in their cars wondered what the hell is he doing...no luck---it's still there.......maybe I'll try to pry it up over a w/e w/ less traffic.

penny-dime-penny-etc kind of w/e

While on my way to the Card game on Saturday, I first find the penny a block from the gate, then a dime after the game a few seats down from me, then a penny on the walk back to the car.

Then on Sunday, I find a penny on the way to the game again, then a dime and a penny just outside of the bleachers...then Cliff gives us all an Irish penny for luck. Then I find another 2 pennies after the game in separeate locations.

12 on Saturday---the # of runs the Cards had for the 2-days (0+12)
15 on Sunday---the # of runs the Cubs had for the 2-days (6+9)

ten fold again

after giving that penny to the homeless guy and then being paid back ten fold-finding that dime before the end of the day, I find another dime smack dab in the middle of the sidewalk in front of the church...thanks

awareness of the coin...

I never give away 'my' penny...but today, as I walked by this one, I did.
There's a guy, who is homeless?...sitting on the concrete just before the Chicago River Bridge...always there...he's at ground level and is not aware of the penny this sits 18" from his nose...instead, he looks up asking for $$...so, I bend over, almost getting run over by the loopers, and pick-up the penny and think I better give it to him, or it'll look as if I'm a very bad person..stopping to get the penny that was obviously meant for his cup...so he got it.

Then, as I walked to the train from 5pm mass, I think of the time I picked up that dime on another bridge...just feet from a beggar and kept it. Today, I found that dime in the train building, just in the joint of a shop doorway...again, almost getting run over by peeps...such is life.

Walking back from mass to the office...past the Daley Plaza rally for the 2016 olympics...I stay on the otherside of the street, waiting for a sign, almost asking for it...then just steps later, there they are, 3-shinny new pennies right in front of me...thanks!

Friday the 13th--a not so unlucky day. found you--after a long stretch w/o a find--just over the Randolph bridge on the way to work...near a pan-handler...he could have walked 5' to get it, but it was left for me...thanks.

walking across busy Rt 83 at the rr tracks in the snow/rain slush...I lood down to find you...old rusty penny inbetween the rails in the middle of the road...thanks.

walking to work...drawn to walk a slightly different route --to stay out of the strong wind-- I immediatly find a penny, followed by another one just steps away...people almost running me over in the Loop morning rush to work, as I bend over to pick them up.......thanks.

After today's events, I know now why I found the quarter instead of a penny last night...preparing me for the faith tested day of today...

that quarter was in the middle of the road on my bike ride from the train to home last night...thanks for getting me/us through the 4-5 hours of uncertainty today.

On my way back to the car after, working in the loop on a Sunday...and having to park on a side street blocks from the office...since the movie shoot was in my building...I walk across a parkinglot (that I will never corss again) and wonder will I will find one...and of course I did just seconds later...steps from the car ...thanks!
